About the band

Carcass is an English extreme metal band that formed in 1985, initially known for their pioneering work in the grindcore genre before evolving into death metal. Their early albums, such as "Reek of Putrefaction" (1988) and "Symphonies of Sickness" (1989), were characterized by raw, intense music and graphic lyrical themes focused on medical pathology and gore.

However, it was with their 1991 album "Necroticism – Descanting the Insalubrious" that Carcass began to define their unique blend of death metal with melodic elements and intricate guitar work. This style, often referred to as "melodic death metal" or "death 'n' roll," set them apart and influenced numerous bands in the extreme metal scene.

Carcass's impact on the genre is profound, particularly in pioneering the melding of brutality with melody, influencing bands like At the Gates, Arch Enemy, and later generations of death metal bands. Their technical prowess, combined with their willingness to push lyrical and musical boundaries, cemented their status as innovators in extreme metal.

Despite a hiatus in the mid-1990s, Carcass returned with renewed vigor in the 2000s and continues to release critically acclaimed albums, maintaining their position as influential figures in the metal community. Their legacy as boundary-pushers and genre-definers remains strong, making Carcass a cornerstone of extreme metal's evolution.
