About the band
Bathory was a pioneering Swedish black metal band formed in 1983 by musician Quorthon. Known for shaping the early black metal sound, Bathory's music combined elements of thrash and heavy metal with raw, aggressive vocals and dark, atmospheric themes. Their early albums, like Bathory (1984) and Under the Sign of the Black Mark (1987), are considered essential in the black metal genre. Bathory's later work also explored Viking metal, incorporating epic and historical themes. Quorthon’s influence on black and extreme metal is immense, making Bathory one of the genre’s most important acts.
